SLAY YOUR GYM ANXIETY
Does the thought of working out at the gym intimidate you? Don’t even know where to begin? Are you super insecure about all the women you see online who seem to know everything about getting fit while you seem to know nothing about it at all?

Starting a fitness journey and working out consistently can be extremely exciting but also overwhelming for many women. I remember when I first started my fitness journey my legs were literally shaking not only from not having much muscle mass but also from gym anxiety. When you first get started in the gym it may feel like everybody is staring at out and judging you. It is completely normal to feel a bit intimidated and I am sure everyone reading this can relate. For that reason, I wanted to give my girls some tips on how to SLAY those feelings so you can reach all of your fitness goals.
HAVE A PLAN– It is so important to have a workout plan regardless of your fitness level. This will help a lot at the gym for a beginner. Go into the gym already knowing what muscles you are working, what exercises you are doing, and the number of sets/reps for each. I personally write these down in my notes on my iPhone so that I can look quickly at exercise and what is next.
TRAIN AT HOME- This is a really good idea if you want to get use to certain exercises and different movements before doing them in the gym. Working out at home is remarkably effective, especially if you have just started working out and in turn will be stronger when you go to the gym as well. This will help more easily with your transition into the actual gym and you will be able to lift even heavier weights.
GO WITH A FRIEND– When I first started working out, this helped tremendously. I would go to the gym with my best friends all the time until I got comfortable going by myself. I even had a friend that worked at my gym who would help me after their shift and that helped so much. This can take away some stress and help you feel more confident because you have support. If you think you look silly it helps having someone there to motivate you and you can both look “silly” together.
MAKE CONNECTIONS- As I mentioned above, I had a friend who worked at the gym who helped me begin my fitness journey. Having friend from the gym itself is so great because they already have the knowledge on what to do so you have a companion as well as someone with knowledge to help you. Whether its online or at the gym, try to make connections with other like-minded individuals that can hold you accountable as well as give you great fitness tips on your journey.

HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER– If you have the extra money in your budget, hiring a personal trainer is definitely a good investment. This can be an in-person trainer or even an online trainer. However, an in person is obviously the best if you want someone to be by your side physically and walk you by step by step. This way you know you have proper form, are doing the right exercises and can be corrected if you are not doing something right, all while gaining important knowledge about fitness. Most gyms also have their own personal trainers that you can hire or that come with a specific membership so make sure to ask them about this if that is something your interest in.
WEAR ATTRACTIVE WORKOUT CLOTHES– Now, people underestimate this one a lot. Ever heard of the motto “if you look good, you feel good”? Well, this motto is so true! I make it a habit to always wear something I know I look good in the gym because it makes me feel good as well. While looking in the mirror at the gym and seeing your cute outfit you will feel way more confident and it will motivate you even more during your workout.
WORKOUT IN PRIVATE AREAS– One of the gyms I have a membership for have a women’s only section. This is so convenient because I have heard from a lot of women, they do not like working out because men. This is unfortunate, so I would recommend finding a gym that has a private fitness area for women or at least multiple areas in general where you could choose the area that may have the least amount of people
GO AT LOW PEAK TIMES– You can go on google to see the peak times for your gym. I personally do this when wanting to know the best times to record. This way you will have a better chance at going during a time where not a lot of people are there, and you will feel more confident. This may be early in the morning or even late at night.
Lastly, just remember people are not paying attention to you like you may think they are. Yes, you may have people who check you out because you are looking good but for the most part people are there to work on their own goals. A lot of people like to get in and get out, so they are not going to be worried about staring at you and worrying about what you’re doing. Just relax and worry about your goals. You will feel confident in the gym like a pro no time
